Conditions we Treat
-
Whether it’s a recent injury or a chronic issue we can help to address your pain and improve your mobility and function to care for yourself and your family well. The back is supported by some key players - your core, hips, even your feet can play a part in helping your back feel really happy.
-
Tailbone pain can really hurt and cause dysfunction and pain with sitting, pooping, intercourse, and even exercise. Your pelvic floor muscles can become tight after a fall or pain in your tailbone. Our goals may include releasing these tight muscles and then building strength to help heal your tailbone pain.
-
Constipation can cause excessive pressure into your pelvic floor and can increase your risk of prolapse and other issues. With physical therapy we will work on proper toileting techniques, breathing techniques, discuss diet and other ways to best manage your stool consistency.
-
A separation of your abdominal wall is normal with pregnancy and after birth the body should work to knit the abdomen back together. However, in 36% of women this separation does not heal and there can be many things that we will look at to address its healing. This could include: back tightness, posture, breathing patterns, rib positioning, hip strength.
-
Painful intercourse can occur from tight pelvic floor muscles. The pelvic floor is a hammock of muscles that helps to provide support to our internal organs. Many times if there is history of pain or dryness our pelvic floor muscles respond by tightening and either not allowing penetration or cause very painful intercourse.
-
Hip pain is a big annoyance and can prevent us from doing the things that we love. There are many causes - sometime it can be referral pain from our low back, other times there we can have overactivity of our hip flexor muscles (front of the hip) or piriformis (butt muscle) that can contribute to dysfunction and pain. Our job is to restore function and balance to the hip, allowing the femur to sit in a deep comfy position within the hip and then keep it there with increasing strength.
-
Almost half of women may experience prolapse at some point in their lives. This is a very common issue that can have a many causes including: repetitive lifting of heavy objects, straining to have a bowel movement, pushing during childbirth for an extended amount of time, history of a hysterectomy. Our first goal in addressing prolapse is to improve the way that our body manages pressure. With excessive pressure down into our pelvic floor our prolapse cannot heal and could continue to worsen.
-
Pelvic floor muscle dysfunction can cause pelvic pain. If the muscles are too tight or are not functioning correctly this can cause pain in the pelvis. We will address these muscles to make sure they are happy, strong muscles and are able to do the work they need to do like holding up our internal organs, helping us pee and poop, helping us squat and jump.
-
After we have a baby we are forever changed, our body included. There are many common things that we like to address postpartum including: ribcage angle and positioning, pelvic floor function, breathing, back pain, pelvic pain, safe return to exercise.
Postpartum is forever, so it is never too late to have your body assessed to optimize function and improve your ability to live and move without limitations.
-
During pregnancy our bodies adapt to accommodate a growing baby. Accompanied with these miraculous changes can sometimes be pain and dysfunction including: pubic symphysis dysfunction, back pain, hip pain, ribcage pain, belly pain, neck pain, shoulder pain. We will assess your posture, breathing, load transfer, functional movement. This will then allow us to implement a plan to optimize your ability to move and adapt to changes with your growing baby with a reduction of your symptoms.
-
The SI joint is where the bottom of our spine meets our hips. This area can become painful and irritated for a variety of reasons. Some common things that can contribute to SI joint pain include: pelvic floor (the muscles in your pelvis), weakness, muscles working too hard, poor loading patterns.
-
Sciatica or irritation of your sciatic nerve can present as pain in your back, pain into your booty, or pain down the back of your leg. Our goal is to determine what is causing the irritation and eliminate that cause.
-
Do you feel like your bladder is running your life? Would you like to regain control? We use current research, breath, and exercise to address the frequency and urgency that can spiral out of control.
-
Do you leak a few drops or totally wet your pants? Your pelvic floor has a large role in managing pressure and preventing you from peeing your pants when functioning optimally. We will address why you are experiencing leakage and optimize the way that your body is managing pressure.
-
Take steps to live and move well. Wellness is a lifestyle and if you are feeling stuck, we can help you start your journey and take meaningful steps to change your trajectory. Together, we will work to identify your movement impairments (issues) and how we can optimize strength and flexibility to prevent pain and dysfunction.
